Getting nervous near the end

  • While the end is near, it sometimes feels like we are still miles away.  The house is still filled with the byproducts of constuction, and I’ve got a detailed list a mile long of all the line items that need to be taken care of, including work for the following trades:
  • Plumbing
  • Electrical
  • Cabinets
  • Paint
  • Stone
  • Tile
  • Security
  • Audio / Video / Network
  • Carpentry
  • HVAC
  • Fireplaces
  • Elevator
  • Carpet
  • Wood floor

Out of a list of almost 250 items I put together a couple of weeks ago, we still have about 180 items left.  Many of them are small, but need to be done nonetheless.

Yea, that’s my list.  The grey items at the top are done.

Additionally, some subs keep disappearing on us, so close to the end game.  With the lease on our rental expiring, and our bank loan deadlines approaching, it is a pretty nerve-racking time trying to get the construction completed.  The problems this creates is exacerbated right now as the interaction between subs (one of them depending on the completion of work by another) is at a high right now.

We’ve made it clear to all our subs that deadlines we are under, but they have their own situations to deal with unfortunately, which is why some of them keep pulling people from our job.

At this point, we can only hope for the best.  Our immediate goal is to get a certificate of occupancy so we can close on the loan and move in.  After that, we can worry about finishing the work.
