Connecting the house utilities

We started the work to run the utilities from the pole at the street to our demarcation point at the side of the garage, where the main electrical panel and the low voltage panels are.  Any new construction or significant remodel requires under grounding of the utilities from the pole to the house.

There is quite a bit of trenching that had to be done.  From the pole, we feed an electrical box in the grassy area between the sidewalk and the street, and then it runs underground to the house.  The phone and cable will run straight from the bottom of the pole to the street and will both get 2 inch conduits in case we need the room.  We are also running an extra 2 inch conduit in case at some future time another service is offered that requires a separate feed (like fiber optic internet).

You can see the yellow temporary power pole on the right behind the green construction fence.  Once our utilities are under-grounded.

Here is the house end of the run.  There are also some conduits there that will feed the pool cabana and the places where we can add a backup generator and / or fuel cell generator there.

Here is where it all hits the pole.

The electrical conduit gets laid at the bottom of a 3 foot or so deep trench.  It then gets covered with dirt about half way up the trench and some special metal tape gets laid down.  This allows someone with a special detector to find the path of the electrical conduit under the driveway.

Then the phone and cable conduit get laid on top, along with the spare.

At the garage, the panel came a bit proud of the siding.  We decided to work with it and build in a utility closet, with doors built to match the garage doors.
