Santa Barbara has an interesting architectural history. Of the type of house we are building, Craftsman, there are many fine examples, as well as Victorian, Edwardian, and hybrids of these styles.
I came across this interesting one recently. Consider this local restaurant we frequent.
Hidden behind that tacked-on first story addition is a pretty cool old house. Inside the restaurant I found this picture of the original house.
Interestingly enough, this seems to be prior to the street (a short 1-block street) that it is on being a fixture. Also notice the large house next door. Here are a couple of views from the other street this house sits on which shows an additional add-on and the changes to the house next door as well.
I find it particular interesting, seen very well in the view above, how they have grafted a Mediterranean style (also very popular here) with the original Craftsman-esque style.
