When we tore down the old house, we saved quite a bit of wood. Stuff like exposed beams, structural beams, and even wall studs and floor joists, all redwood. Much of it is old growth, tight grain, clear heart redwood.
We also got quite a few old redwood fence and shed boards, which we are now using to face the inside of one of our elevator doors, as we need to close the space a bit between the inner and outer doors to meet code requirements.
Take a look at all the beautiful old distressed wood.
We had to back-plane the wood to make it all the same thickness, which exposed the redwood beneath.
Here is the finished door treatment.
