We might actually see the end of the cabinet painting this week. Because the cabinet paint needs to be more durable than normal house paint, it is a lacquer based paint and is quite noxious when painting is occurring, and for some time afterwards. That means that most other work inside the house needs to stop when they are painting.
Quite a bit of the painting is now done and looks pretty good. The first floor is entirely complete, and both the basement and second floor are primed.
The family room TV wall.
The bar, which also got most of its tops last week.
The powder room.
The dining room.
And, of course, the kitchen.
The cabinet painters were in on Saturday painting the basement and second floors, all of which appear to have at least the first finish coat applied.
As you can see above, the house painters have covered the cabinet painters work, so they can work in the same room.
There is a lot of cabinetry to paint!
We also got the samples of the stain for the cabinets, which we will match for the house doors and windows. We chose the center shade, which you can see next to our flooring and paint samples on top.
