Our old house was on the eastern side of our lot, and the driveway entrance on the western side. With the new house, and the local solar access ordinance, we could not build a two-story structure on the eastern (really north-eastern) side as it would block some of the sun from our neighbors lot, which isn’t allowed. So the house shifted to the south-western side and the driveway to the north-eastern side. Now we have to do all the work to move the driveway mouth, as well as repair the sidewalk that we damaged with heavy equipment.
Here is the old driveway mouth.
And the new one.
Here is everything we have to do:
Curb / gutter / sidewalk – old driveway mouth
Approx. 10’-15’ of saw cuts
Demo & remove approx. 18’ x 5.5’ sidewalk
Demo & remove approx. 17’ x 6’ driveway approach
Demo & remove approx. 23’ x 36” gutter
Demo & remove approx. 23’ x 18” asphalt
Remove and preserve approx. 10’ sandstone curb
Install approx. 27’ sandstone curb, including one curved return
Core 2x 3” holes in sandstone curb
Install approx.23’ x 36” gutter – match exposed aggregate look of existing
Install approx. 18’ x 5.5’ sidewalk
Patch approx. 23’ x 18” asphalt
Curb / gutter / sidewalk – new driveway mouth
Approx. 10’-15’ of saw cuts
Demo & remove approx. 24’ x 5.5’ sidewalk
Demo & remove approx. 24’ x 36” gutter
Demo & remove approx. 24’ x 18” asphalt
Remove and preserve approx. 24’ sandstone curb
Install approx. 12’ sandstone curb, including two curved returns
Install approx. 24’ x 36” gutter – match exposed aggregate look of existing
Install approx. 14’ x 6’ driveway approach, with ¾” lift from gutter
Install approx. 24’ sidewalk
Patch approx. 24’ x 18” asphalt
We basically have to tear out everything from past the sidewalk to 18″ into the street asphalt. While we have everything torn up, we will put in sleeves for irrigation and a couple of 3″ pipes for the drainage out of our bio-filtration basin.
Of particular note are the sandstone curbs native to our area. Interestingly, look at the side of where our old driveway meets our neighbors.
It appears as though the curb was moved once from where we will be putting it back. Here is the sandstone curb.
