The front door went in today, and it looks just as spectacular as we envisioned. As a comparison, here is the design I did for the door. The glass panels will be some kind of stained glass, which we haven’t designed yet.

But for the stone cap, the stone work on the front porch columns is almost complete, and boy, does it look stunning. Typical craftsman columns would be made of wood above the stone, but, such wood cladding would be prone to water intrusion at the corners. We’ve opted for bead board ceilings for our outside porches and our kitchen and family rooms, a nice craftsman touch. The installation process is actually quite tedious, as the boards must be precisely cut around each opening for lights, sprinklers, outlets, and speakers grills. But the results are outstanding. It happened in some fits and starts, due to obstructions like the scaffolding, but the roof is completely on now, sans gutters. It looks pretty nice. With the great views up there, I sure wish we could have a roof deck.

Over the last few days, all the scaffolding hiding the exterior of the house as been removed. While you could kinda see how the house looked through the scaffolding, it is a much clearer picture with it gone, and, it looks pretty outstanding. The stone work is coming along nicely, with the fireplace entirely finished, and the stone masons starting on the foundation and columns. I must say, I am just thrilled with the way the stone work is turning out.
