Sometimes the reality of the house isn’t clear from flat 2D floor plans and engineering drawings. As the house gets built, the true nature of things reveal themselves, sometimes requiring changes to either improve aesthetics or something that doesn’t function well in practice. One example of this is the difficulty in running the HVAC throughout the house.
Another good example is this lovely post that is in a bit of an inconvenient spot as you come down the stairs into our basement.
If you walk down the stairs and want to turn left, you run smack into that post.
The solution is to strengthen the beam above with a steel plate bolted to it, so that the supporting post is no longer required.
(The two doubled up 2×6’s still there are temporary and will be removed.)
