More excavation, lots of rocks

We are now more than half way through excavation and our front your truly looks like a battle zone.

The basement hole(s) are getting pretty wide and deep.

The ridge separating the two holes is the old sewer line.  On the far side of the hole is the replacement sewer line for the old house that will be in place temporarily until the old house is taken down.  Once the old sewer line is gone, we take out the separation and make it one giant hole.

The pictures really don’t do the holes justice – they are really big!

We continue to find lots lots of Santa Barbara sandstone; the deeper we go, the more rock there is.  It slows down excavation, but it will be great when we need to do the decorative stone work.  It will be nice to know all the stone came from our site.

We found a stone contractor that is willing to store all the larger stone for us in exchange for the smaller rocks (the rubble).  We’ve got quite a pile going now in their yard.

We’ve got about 7-10 days of excavation and then the final grading begins.  Some time in late April or the first week of May we should start forming the foundation.
