Tearing down the old garage

Our garage, built in 1942, was close to falling over on its own.

It is in the way of the new driveway cut, so it is one of the first things that has to be done before we can start grading the lot and digging the basement.  The excavation contractor  noticed that the boards on the outside of the garage were redwood 1 by 12.  One side of the garage contained the old door openings, now filled with plywood, and had no planks, and two of the sides were severely damaged from the elements.  The side that was shaded by nearby foliage was in pretty good shape and we were able to harvest about 10 decent boards from it, many of which were clear vertical grain redwood.

That top board is con heart, not as nice, but most of them are clear.

Once the excavator got to work, it was very quick work indeed.
