A word about salvaging old materials for re-use. Charlie has a keen eye for what might be worthwhile to keep. Here is the pile of stuff we pulled out of the part of the house we pulled down:
It’s all redwood, con-heart and some very very nice clear. Look at this piece:
This is clear redwood 10×10 15′ long. You just don’t find stuff like this anymore. New it might cost upwards of $2,000 for just that piece.
We have quite a lot of other clear redwood like that around the house as well. We are going to mill it and use it for something decorative in the new house, like railing, benches, furniture, or built-ins.
