Water

Last year was supposed to be El Niño, and bring lots of rain for us, which of course, it didn’t.  This year, is supposed to be La Niña, which is supposed to be drier than usual, which it is turning out NOT to be.

The house, or course, is still quite open to the elements.

While Charlie and others have assured me that the water won’t do any damage, I am still nervous, especially about the plywood, which, in my past experience doesn’t hold up so well to rain.  So, at my urging, we sealed the plywood on Thursday.

We experienced our second rainstorm on Friday and over the weekend and there was quite a bit of water in the structure.

We drilled holes in the plywood wherever there was pooling and this eventually brought all the water down to the basement, where we used brooms to sweep it into the small pit at the bottom of the elevator shaft, and then used a sump pump to pump it out.

For the next couple of storms we will get before the house is dried in, I ordered some large squeegees to help move the water around.

I’ll be relieved when the roof is on.
