{"id":417,"date":"2016-11-22T07:19:48","date_gmt":"2016-11-22T15:19:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/?p=417"},"modified":"2016-11-22T07:19:48","modified_gmt":"2016-11-22T15:19:48","slug":"more-rain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/index.php\/2016\/11\/22\/more-rain\/","title":{"rendered":"More rain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Sunday night we had another smallish rain storm, and got a bout 1\/2 inch over 6-8 hours.\u00a0 Not much by any standard but enough to get everything thoroughly wet and create large puddles in the basement.<\/p>\n<p>We were more prepared this time and were able to mitigate the water quickly.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/index.php\/2016\/10\/31\/water\/\">Last time<\/a>, we swept the water around the basement with brooms, which didn&#8217;t work that great.\u00a0 In anticipation of more rain, I ordered some large floor squeegees.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-418 size-medium aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/00954_1024x1024-300x252.png\" alt=\"00954_1024x1024\" width=\"300\" height=\"252\" srcset=\"http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/00954_1024x1024-300x252.png 300w, http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/00954_1024x1024-768x644.png 768w, http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/00954_1024x1024.png 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The upper two floors already drained pretty well with all the holes we drilled after the previous rain, which put all the water into the basement.\u00a0 We moved the water in the basment into the elevator pit with the squeegees, and used a pump to pull it out.\u00a0 We then used a shop vac to vacuum up the water from the places that were harder to get to.\u00a0 The end results was the structure was pretty dry after just an hour.<\/p>\n<p>Once we are dried in, we plan on spraying some bleach on anywhere that looks like a possible mold suspect.<\/p>\n<p>I am probably more paranoid than I need to be, but we have a local horror story about mold in construction, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edhat.com\/site\/tidbit.cfm?nid=21196&amp;showcomments=T\">Bacara Resort<\/a>, which was apparently built during a particularly wet year, and in a hurried fashion, such that they didn&#8217;t let the wood dry out before it was closed in, resulting in almost the entire resort having mold issue, which they have been slowly remedying over time (at great expense I am sure).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Sunday night we had another smallish rain storm, and got a bout 1\/2 inch over 6-8 hours.\u00a0 Not much by any standard but enough to get everything thoroughly wet and create large puddles in the basement.
