{"id":2085,"date":"2019-05-31T09:20:02","date_gmt":"2019-05-31T17:20:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/?p=2085"},"modified":"2019-05-31T09:20:02","modified_gmt":"2019-05-31T17:20:02","slug":"mowing-the-lawn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/index.php\/2019\/05\/31\/mowing-the-lawn\/","title":{"rendered":"Mowing the lawn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our landscaper suggested that we get our own mower for the maintenance guys will use.\u00a0 When a mower goes from property to property, it tends to carry weed seeds with it, and that is how lawns most often get weeds.<\/p>\n<p>Our lawn is a a hybrid Bermuda type, with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ehow.com\/how_6735450_overseed-bermuda-fescue.html\">fescue overlay<\/a>.\u00a0 What this means is that it is a combination of two types of grass.\u00a0 The hybrid Bermuda will thrive in the heat of summer, and the fescue will do better in the winter months.<\/p>\n<p>But Bermuda grass needs a reel mower, the type with the large spinning chopper in the front.\u00a0 Compared to regular mowers (around $300), reel mowers are expensive (around $1,200).<\/p>\n<p>However, we happened to find this beauty of a dinosaur for $150 on Criaglist.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-2086\" src=\"http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/IMG_6534-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"730\" height=\"548\" srcset=\"http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/IMG_6534-1280x960.jpeg 1280w, http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/IMG_6534-300x225.jpeg 300w, http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/IMG_6534-768x576.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We contacted the maker, McLane, and were able to get a front throw basket and a manual, and had it tuned up at our local mower shop; it works fine.<\/p>\n<p>Now the landscape maintenance crew uses this mower every week and hopefully our lawn will remain weed free.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our landscaper suggested that we get our own mower for the maintenance guys will use.\u00a0 When a mower goes from property to property, it tends to carry weed seeds with it, and that is how lawns most often get weeds.
