{"id":2043,"date":"2019-03-28T15:27:14","date_gmt":"2019-03-28T23:27:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/?p=2043"},"modified":"2019-03-28T15:27:14","modified_gmt":"2019-03-28T23:27:14","slug":"its-a-front-yard-at-last","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/index.php\/2019\/03\/28\/its-a-front-yard-at-last\/","title":{"rendered":"It&#8217;s a front yard, at last"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our front yard is now an actual front yard.\u00a0 The biggest elements that we completed were<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>stepping stones<\/li>\n<li>flagstone seating area<\/li>\n<li>lawn<\/li>\n<li>parkway<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We always wanted a friendly, inviting front yard, hence the large porch and the lack of privacy hedges.\u00a0 We also added a little seating area at the edge of our yard so we can sit out there when the kids run around and play.\u00a0 Neighbors often stop by and say hi when we are in our front yard, and I can imaging it will be more so now that it is actually done.<\/p>\n<p>Once the flagstone seating area was done, they added the irrigation for the lawn.<\/p>\n<p>Our property is irrigated differently than I&#8217;ve ever seen done before.\u00a0 Rather then irrigation pipe with emitters stuck in, we are using all irrigation pipe with holes in it.\u00a0 Reminiscent of the older seeping hoses, they deliver a fixed rate of water per hold depending on how far you open the valve.\u00a0 You can control the amount of water by adding more loops (like around a tree) and through the valve volume control (how far it is opened).\u00a0 What you lose with this method is the ability to water things with drastically different needs on some occasions, which you could do through different emitters.<\/p>\n<p>But you also gain efficiency, as all the irrigation pipe is all buried under the soil, or at least the mulch, which lessens evaporation.
