{"id":2013,"date":"2019-03-06T08:57:57","date_gmt":"2019-03-06T16:57:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/?p=2013"},"modified":"2019-03-06T08:57:57","modified_gmt":"2019-03-06T16:57:57","slug":"every-rain-storm-is-an-opportunity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/index.php\/2019\/03\/06\/every-rain-storm-is-an-opportunity\/","title":{"rendered":"Every rain storm is an opportunity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"\/index.php\/2019\/03\/06\/driveway\/\">completion of our driveway<\/a>, and one of the curbs we installed for that, created another puddle area, which became apparent over last weekends storm.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-2015\" src=\"http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_5491-1280x720.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"730\" height=\"411\" srcset=\"http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_5491-1280x720.png 1280w, http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_5491-300x169.png 300w, http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_5491-768x432.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In that particular area, we did put a french drain in all along that curb which drains into the permeable paver driveway on the other side of it.\u00a0 But the water just wasn&#8217;t draining well enough to satisfy me, probably due to the heavy soil we have.<\/p>\n<p>Since we put 6 inch drainage pipes on either side of the property, it was easy for us to simply tap into the pipe in that area and add a couple of surface drains.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-2016\" src=\"http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_5604-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"730\" height=\"548\" srcset=\"http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_5604-1280x960.jpeg 1280w, http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_5604-300x225.jpeg 300w, http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/IMG_5604-768x576.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Voila!\u00a0 We had the next storm, a pretty heavy one, last night, and the drains performed well, with no water puddling in that area.<\/p>\n<p>While the rain has been a hindrance for our forward progress on the landscaping (for some reason people don&#8217;t want to work outside when it is raining), it has given us a very good opportunity to repeatedly check our drainage, and tweak it between storms.\u00a0 As it stands, our property performs very well; it has lots of permeable area, supplemented with surface drains to account for excess flow during heavy rain.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The completion of our driveway, and one of the curbs we installed for that, created another puddle area, which became apparent over last weekends storm.
