{"id":1731,"date":"2018-08-16T14:40:20","date_gmt":"2018-08-16T22:40:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/?p=1731"},"modified":"2018-08-16T14:40:20","modified_gmt":"2018-08-16T22:40:20","slug":"front-steps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/index.php\/2018\/08\/16\/front-steps\/","title":{"rendered":"Front steps"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s been so long since we&#8217;ve been able to get onto our property without walking over dirt, it is almost unbelievable.\u00a0 Yesterday, they poured the front steps and walkway, and today, we can walk on it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-1732\" src=\"http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_2385-1280x960.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"730\" height=\"548\" srcset=\"http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_2385-1280x960.jpg 1280w, http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_2385-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_2385-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It was quite a project, and required 10 yards of concrete.\u00a0 We colored the concrete, a slight sandstone tint.\u00a0 The ready mix company has a name for it, called Schlagel Buff.\u00a0 You might remember Schlagel Stone from a <a href=\"\/index.php\/2018\/06\/13\/faux-sandstone\/\">previous post<\/a> &#8211; named after the same guy.<\/p>\n<p>Technically, it works out to 1.5 lbs of the sandstone color per sack of cement, 5 sacks per yard of concrete.<\/p>\n<p>The last step after pouring and finishing is texturization.\u00a0 They spray on an acid over all the concrete, and let it sit for a day.\u00a0 It slightly etches the top layer of concrete.\u00a0 The next morning, they power wash off the top layer revealing a slightly rough surface.\u00a0 It makes a great non-slip surface and takes the shiny edge off of the concrete.<\/p>\n<p>At the bottom of our steps, by the sidewalk, sits the brickslot drain.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-1733\" src=\"http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_2388-1280x960.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"730\" height=\"548\" srcset=\"http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_2388-1280x960.jpg 1280w, http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_2388-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/buildingfromscratch.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_2388-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Yea, I didn&#8217;t know what they were either.\u00a0 This particular drain was called out by the civil engineer.\u00a0 The building codes required us to collect EVERY little bit of water runoff from an impermeable surface and direct it to our filtration basin, this small section of concrete being no exception.\u00a0 The brickslot is a type that has a pretty low visibility as far as drains go.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s been so long since we&#8217;ve been able to get onto our property without walking over dirt, it is almost unbelievable.\u00a0 Yesterday, they poured the front steps and walkway, and today, we can walk on it.
