board ceilings for the kitchen and family room"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At the back of our house are the kitchen and family room.\u00a0 We decided to make the ceilings in these two rooms (really one big room) somewhat special by finishing them with bead board, like we did the exterior patios and porches.\u00a0 The family room will get the added treatment of box beams below the bead board.<\/p>\n<p>The bead board we are using is essentially the same as what we used out on the patio, but is a wider board &#8211; 8-inch planks, two beads per plank, rather than the 6-inch planks we used outside.<\/p>\n<p>For some reason, the bead board ended up cheaper if we had the mill work company run poplar wood through their knife, and then have the painters paint it, rather than just ordering the catalog bead board.\u00a0 Here is a big lot of it out to dry after being painted.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-1057\" front and back of the board.\u00a0 If the back is left unpainted, it can absorb moisture and cause cupping.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the two sides of the large room where two teams of 2 carpenters are pretty labor intensive to install, because there are some detailed cuts around the speakers, light fixtures, HVAC supplies and returns, and the fire sprinklers.<\/p>\n<p>Once the bead board is up,
