The rock wall is being repaired now. We have three main areas to fill in.
The first is the old driveway mouth. They’ve made great progress.
The new section vs the older sections of wall is interesting for a couple of reasons. First, the new sections has a real foundation and has rebar going trough the supporting wall behind it.
Here is the supporting wall.
While it is just a mixture of mortar and rocks, wrapped around the rebar, it greatly increases the thickness of the overall wall, and makes it much less likely to lean over in the future. The old wall is leaning over 1-2 inches over 3+ feet of height.
Here is where the new and old walls meet.
You can see how much more massive the new wall (on the left) is than the old wall, and how the old wall stick out more at the top – it is leaning over slightly.
