We have a total of 8 large Canary palm trees on our lot. We love them, but they are in pretty random locations, so we are going to move most of them into more aesthetically pleasing positions.
In preparation to move them, they first tie up a bunch of the fronds to keep them out of the way (and apparently it helps the tree survive better), then trim the remaining fronds.
Then, they dug a trench around the bottom of the palms.
They start digging the trench around the palms by hand to provide a starter channel for the backhoe so it doesn’t wander when they are digging. They’ll dig the holes down to 4-6 feet deep with the backhoe.
